The Chock side table is Studio Spelk’s latest product. Designed and made in Canton Zug, Switzerland, this piece embodies a harmonious blend of minimalist aesthetics and functional craftsmanship.
Poise.
The table-top connects to the base, not at the centre, but slightly offset. This creates tension and plays with the viewer’s perception of balance.
The underside of the top is shaped by hand and tapers organically towards the point at which it meets the base.
Fun. Simple.
Crafted from two solid oak components and connected by a wedge (or chock), this piece is testament to Studio Spelk’s philosophy which drives all of our designs:
“If it isn’t fun, what’s the point?”

Form.
The base, refined using traditional Japanese hand planes, exhibits crisp facets that reflect the light tangentially.
Unlike conventional assembly methods, the Chock side table features a wedged through-tenon that elegantly secures the top to the base, eliminating the need for screws, nails, or glue.
This innovative approach not only enhances the table's structural integrity but also evokes a sense of tranquility and playfulness.
Each wedge is ebonized to establish contrast, before being shaped and fitted to each table individually. The end of the through tenon itself is sculpted initially using a gouge, before being refined with a curved cabinet scraper.
